Media: Post-film Discussion guide, The Armor of Light

Producers of the documentary film, “The Armor of Light,” www.armoroflightfilm.com which chronicles an evangelical minister’s shift of perspectives on gun rights and gun control, wanted to invite people with differing views on the issue to have respectful post-screening conversations about firearms, the constitution and religious faith. My colleague John Sarrouf http://www.whatisessential.org/practitioner/john-sarrouf and I worked on a comprehensive guide to dialogue for use in theaters, churches and universities. I also presented a webinar and offered coaching to many PBS stations around the country that were offering the “Independent Lens” broadcast of The Armor of Light.

My colleague Mary Jacksteit http://www.whatisessential.org/practitioner/mary-jacksteit-jd-ms and I worked with Bishop McConnell and a terrific planning group to create a dialogue program and train facilitators to implement it across the diocese. The input from participants was included as part of the Bishop’s deliberation and decision-making which did not deepen divisions.
